Google Map Controls

Overview 

Human Computer Interaction @Savannah College of Art and Design / 1 week / 2019

Project Brief : The project aims to redesign a micro- interaction control that aggravates us as users. The first step of the project is to pick a control that we dislike. Then we need to draw out the current state diagram of the control in order to identify the problems that users like us may experiencing. Eventually, we design a solution that improves the micro- interaction of the control we chose. 

Current State

It is important to understand the current state of the micro-interaction system before finding areas to improve. We started by drawing out the current state diagram of the system to understand the system better. 

Identify the problems

Through primary research and drawing out the current state diagram, I was able to find some problems that might cause users' confusions existed within the current system. The existing problems are making the google map experience less appealing and should be corrected and redesigned immediately. 

There are two controls that have similar and repetitive functions that confuse the users when using the app. 

The navigation page has limited functions. It does not allow you to select ways of traveling and it assumes that you are starting from your current location.

The direction page has repetitive functions as the navigation page. It assumes that you are at your current location even though it is designed for you to start from different locations. 

Wireframing
